About Dr. Sydney Ceruto

The brain rewires itself in live moments — during a decision, a flashpoint, an argument with someone you love — not in retrospect. That single biological fact is the premise of this newsletter and the practice it draws from.

Dr. Sydney Ceruto with The Dopamine Code

I am Dr. Sydney Ceruto, a cognitive and behavioral neuroscientist. I founded MindLAB Neuroscience in 2000 and have spent the twenty-six years since working directly with a select number of individuals on the neural pathways that drive their behavior, decisions, and emotional responses. The work happens in real time, across every domain of a life, with one person at a time. The Intelligence Brief is the public-facing extension of that work — what I see in practice, translated into language that is precise without being unreadable.

  • PhD in Behavioral & Cognitive Neuroscience — New York University
  • Master's Degrees in Clinical Psychology and Business Psychology — Yale University
  • Lecturer, Wharton Executive Development Program — University of Pennsylvania
  • Author, The Dopamine Code (Simon & Schuster, June 2026) and The Dopamine Code Workbook (Simon & Schuster, October 2026)

The Intelligence Brief

Most of what gets written about the brain is either academic and unreadable or simplified to the point of being wrong. The middle is where the useful work lives, and almost no one writes from there. The Intelligence Brief is my attempt to.

Each issue takes a single neural mechanism — the amygdala's threat-detection calibration, the dopamine system under chronic stress, the default mode network's role in identity, the prefrontal cortex's regulation of impulse — and shows you how it shapes behavior you recognize in yourself or in the people around you. Not as theory. As mechanism. With enough specificity that the next time you encounter the pattern, you can see what is actually happening underneath it, and the gap between knowing and doing narrows by a measurable degree.

No life-hacks. No listicles.

You will not be sold to here. Subscribers get the writing — and, when the timing matters, an early look at adjacent work. Everything else stays where it belongs, on the website that funds it. The brief is the place I think out loud, in language built for people who make decisions with consequences and want the underlying neuroscience to be honest with them.

Real-Time Neuroplasticity™

Real-Time Neuroplasticity™ is the methodology I have built across twenty-six years of practice. It rests on a finding that became impossible to ignore: the brain is most receptive to lasting change not in the calm reflective hours after an event, but during the event itself, when the neural circuitry producing the behavior is active and modifiable. Retrospective approaches — reviewing a moment days or weeks later — work on a brain that has already closed the window. Real-time work intervenes while the window is open, which is the difference between rehearsing change and producing it.

The Dopamine Code

My forthcoming book, The Dopamine Code: How to Rewire Your Brain for Happiness and Productivity (Simon & Schuster), publishes in June 2026, with the companion workbook following in October 2026. Subscribers will see the material first.
